I am blessed to be housesitting for a kind, Christian family for about ten days. What a special gift to me! It has been a long, long time since I have had an opportunity to “live” in a real home, with a KITCHEN, washer and dryer, and a Jacuzzi! WOW! Anyways part of the fun being here is taking care of the animals. By my calculations there are three calves, around a dozen chickens, three guineas, two donkeys and a cat. I have only been here for a couple of days and have spent hours just hanging out with them….doing nothing!
It’s the donkeys that are the subject of this blog. They are in a nice big field, but have eaten the grass down to nubs. They wander around and around the field eating the little patches of grass that they can find…now they are not starving by a long shot, but they have to seek to find. (Already, I can see a parallel between them and my walk with the Lord!) So they are getting fed, but when they see me feeding the chickens and the calves, they bray at me like they are starving! LOL! The thing is, the owners have recently opened up the gate to the back pasture for them…but the donkeys haven’t figured that out yet! The way has been opened for them to the greener grass, all they have to do is walk it out! As I was watching them the Lord began to speak to my heart about His people. He began to talk to me about the broken hearted, those that are hurting and in bondage, those ones that know Jesus, but don’t really understand what His sacrifice on the cross means for their life. We all know fellow Christians, maybe even ourselves, that have not surrendered these wounds and chains to Jesus! Puts me in mind of Isaiah 61 especially this part
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners; Isaiah 61:1b
Jesus himself was sent to bind our hearts up! Sent to bring freedom to captives (those that have become bound by abuse, hurts, wounds, lies that we believe, caused by others) He was sent to bring freedom to prisoners! (those that have entered into sin, addictions, ruled by emotions, old patterns of thinking…those things we do to ourselves)
Jesus came to bring freedom! He paid the ultimate sacrifice, His very blood, to bring us life, to set us free from death, to make a way for us to walk in FREEDOM!
John 8:36 says If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
We are free! Free from depression, free from anger, free from condemnation, free from those generational curses, and of everything that comes against receiving the love of the Father! But, just like those donkeys, if we don’t begin to walk it out, to speak life over ourselves, to begin to surrender our hearts to the Healer, to press into the Lord and let Him mold us, we will never know the taste of that greener grass…that FREEDOM!
Father, right now, I give to You all those lies that I believed about myself..the ones that have had me believe that I am too bad to be forgiven, that I will never measure up to a “real” Christian..that I cannot change, that I will be just like my Mama…all of those that would keep me from accepting Your love and plans for my life! I lean into You! Thank You so much that through the blood of Jesus, I am FREE! Teach me, Lord, show me Your ways, help me to walk in FREEDOM! In Jesus name…amen
